Off camera flash & Studio Lighting – 8 September

When: Tuesday 8 Sep
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Hutt Valley Tramping Club
Topic: Intro to off camera flash – Paul Whitham

Paul started photographing in school and learned the secrets of the darkroom. That continued at university, but then life, work and family got in the way and the camera was relegated to simply recording key events.

Fast forward to 2006,  he bought his first decent digital SLR and started to focus on really using it. This mainly involved activities around the sports that his daughter Samantha was engaged in. Artistic Skating was the most challenging as it was shot indoors with fast moving subjects and low light. At this stage the camera was in control as it rarely came out of Auto mode. In early 2009 he foolishly volunteered to shoot a wedding and decided that he needed to learn how to photograph better and after attending night school classes it was recommended that he join a camera club.

Since then he has won several awards in the club and has had images do very well in regional and national salons. He had been successful in having an image appear in the last four editions of New Zealand Camera. His main love is in photographing people and his Licentiate set totally focused in this area. He is currently a PSNZ councillor and editor of CameraTalk.
