Competitions – Call for Trophies

*Please note the following changes to the programme*

Ladder 4 Judging – Structure – October 27
Traveling and Trekking Experiences in Nepal and India– Rob Vanderpoel

When: Tuesday 27 October
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Hutt Valley Tramping Club
Topic: Ladder 4 Judging and Traveling and Trekking Experiences in Nepal and India

The results will not take too long to present so Rob has kindly offered to present his amazing travel images to us as well

Rob’s first camera was a Kodak Instamatic while still at school. He progressed to SLRs while at university and for many years his main photographic interests were landscape and travel, later encompassing family as they grew up. Around 6-8 years ago he started taking photography more seriously, attending a number of more advanced and creatively oriented courses and workshops, eventually joining the Hutt Camera Club in 2017. Since joining the club Rob has had acceptances in national salons and exhibitions as well as NZ Camera. He achieved his LPSNZ honours on the first attempt in 2019.

Rob and his wife Angela have always enjoyed overseas travel and trekking. Once the children became self-sufficient they have travelled annually since 2009. Their favourite destinations have been Nepal and India with trips in 1982, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. In this talk Rob will briefly cover the earlier trips and then cover in more detail their 2018 trip to Nepal visiting the cities of Kathmandhu, Patan and Pohkara and culminating in the trek to Everest Base Camp via the picturesque Gokyo Lakes. His talk will cover both a traveller’s and a photographer’s perspective and experiences.

Hutt / Karori Battle – Wednesday November 11

When: Wednesday 11 November
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Karori Arts and Crafts Centre, 7 Beachamp Street, Karori, Wellington
Topic: Battle – a Judge will look at entries from both clubs on the above topics to battle it out for an overall winning club.

Please contact each other to arrange car-pooling as the parking will be fairly limited.  Supper will be provided and it is always a great night to catch up with old friends and have friendly banter over the images with the judge and the other club members.

2021 Committee – Situations Vacant

The Committee have discussed the Competitions role and have decided to run things a little differently next year which has meant that Rob Vanderpoel is happy to take on the role.  To be explained in more detail in a further update, but at this stage be advised that this will take the format of a series of critiques instead of focused on competing.  We will still have the usual 4 rounds but with no points / ladder competition to it

Karen Johnson has kindly offered to take up the Membership Secretary role which Rob is currently looking after.  That just leaves us with a general member needed.

Committee Member – no particular tasks, just able to make the 1 hour zoom meeting once a month to help us with our decision making etc
