Our Sea, Our Backyard – Mary Livingston

When: Tuesday 11 May 2021
Time: 7:30pm
Location: Hutt Valley Tramping Club, 15 Birch Street, Waterloo
Topic: Seascapes by Mary Livingston

Mary Livingston lives in Karori with her Japanese husband Yoshi and their wee Tibetan terrier called BB. Working as a marine biologist for 40 years or more has given her a big love of the ocean. Since taking up photography about 5 years ago she has turned towards her lifelong inspiration of the sea once more and set about trying to capture the tumult and intricacies of our wild Wellington coastline. “Our coast is pretty much iron bound and the towering cliffs provide a dramatic background, whatever the conditions. We can go from balmy silver-smooth waters to tumbling crests within an hour and this makes for exciting and challenging photography.” She is going to present her current project “Our Sea: Our Backyard” and share insights and tips about photographing the coast and its waters that she has learned on the journey so far. Mary uses a combo of three cameras plus four lenses for her work. She shoots in RAW digital, and post-edits her work in LR for colour and black white outputs as prints and online posts.
