Update no. 20 The Photographic Journey

My Journey in Photography – Sean Aickin – September 22

When: Tuesday 22  Sep
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Hutt Valley Tramping Club
Topic: My Photographic Journey – Sean Aicken:
Entries due for ladder 4

With a photographic father, who had his own photo shop, there was little doubt Sean would end up in the photographic industry. Starting out in the late 90’s Sean worked part time at Avtec 20/20 before going on to work in various other photo stores in NZ and Aussie before settling in Wellington at Wellington Photographic Supplies. Staying there for 15 years he got to know the local industry from all sides, customers photographers and  distributors. As a steadfast analogue fan he thought it would be a good idea to open an analogue focused photo shop and in September 2018 he realised this dream!

Splendid Photo is the analogue photographers dream shop, stocking film from all over the world and making film photography that much easier in NZ!  As well as starting Splendid, Sean has been an active photographer within the music industry photographing bands from all over the world and he also loves a good street photograph.

Sean will be taking us through his journey in photography: From Elton John to owning his own photo shop.

My trip to Iceland – Geoff Marshall – October 13

When: Tuesday 13 October
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Hutt Valley Tramping Club
Topic: My trip to Iceland – Geoff Marshall

Geoff is a serious amateur / semi-professional photographer who has been teaching Community Education photography classes for about 25 years.   Geoff’s interest in photography goes back to his childhood and while he has a broad knowledge of many different aspects of photography, his main interests are landscapes and candid photographs of people.

Geoff’s commercial work includes events, corporate and stock photography .  His traditional approach to photography is to make photographs that are recognisable but show subjects in a new and different way.  In most cases this is achieved by using a different viewpoint, seeking out the unusual aspects of a subject and utilising the technical aspects of camera operation.  More recently he has been experimenting in impressionist images

However, it is important not to be overwhelmed with the technical aspects of photography and the rules set by others and to remember taking photos is all about having fun.

Geoff will be taking us through his recent trip to Iceland.
